How to use this

  1. In the "Transaction amount" box, type the amount your customer sent - for example 5000. You do not need commas or a rupee sign.
  2. Two figures appear straight away - "MDR fee" is what gets deducted, and "Reaches your account" is what is left. There is no button to press.
  3. Below that, pick your work under "Your line of business". If you run a shop, restaurant, pharmacy or a service business, leave it on "General merchant".
  4. The "The arithmetic" line shows the full working, so you can check it yourself.

A worked example

Say a customer sends ₹5,000. Type 5000 in the amount and leave the business as "General merchant". The fee shows as ₹20 and ₹4,980 reaches your account. The arithmetic: ₹5,000 × 0.4% = ₹20.

How this is calculated

The rate and the thresholdFAQ question FAQ Q26

0.4% of the full transaction amount, on P2M transactions above Rs 2,000. The Rs 2,000 is a threshold, not a deduction - a Rs 5,000 payment is charged on all Rs 5,000.

The per-transaction capFAQ question FAQ Q32

MDR is capped at Rs 300 per transaction. Because 0.4% of Rs 75,000 is exactly Rs 300, the fee stops growing at Rs 75,000 and stays Rs 300 however large the payment is.

Flat-fee sectorsFAQ question FAQ Q33, Q39, Q40, Q41Not confirmed yet

Some sectors pay a flat Rs 5 per transaction instead of 0.4%, and only on transactions above Rs 2,000. The per-transaction cap does not apply, because Rs 5 is already a fixed amount.

When it startsFAQ question FAQ Q5

MDR applies to qualifying transactions dated 15 October 2026 and later. Anything before that date carries zero MDR.

You cannot pass it onFAQ question FAQ Q34

A merchant cannot recover MDR from the customer. You may not add it to the bill, show it as a surcharge, or ask for a higher amount to cover it.
